Ron, nice site! Thanks for all the help over the years with my recording purchases, you've become a good friend. I need to get up there and catch one of Jessi's shows so I can hear you live. Your work on Jessi's album "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Like This" is great, and from what people have told me, your live performances just rock! Keep up the great work and keep on rockin'!

Thanks, Ron, for playing not one, not two, but THREE BoDeans songs last night at Shipwreck Bay. That was the highlight of a night of great tunes from the Troye Shanks band at a great venue.

Barb and I enjoyed the TSB for the second time this summer. You guys seem to know exactly what the crowd needs at any given moment. Your setlist if full of many of my favorites, but I like that you pull out things I've never heard too. I spent much of the morning finding the chords and trying to play "Blue on Black." How did I miss out on such a great song until now?

I don't know how much your show is planned out, but it sure looks spontaneous. Someday maybe I'll be able to play/sing without looking at a paper.

We plan to catch you on 9/3 too. See you then.

P.S. Hope your pedalboard survived the doofus who spilled on it -- it had to be during "Fadeaway" too!

Hey Ron!

Nice site!

I suppose this should be written to Ron, but I can't really tell him anything he doesn't already know, and if I could, I'd just send him a regular email, so the rest of this is posted to everybody else here besides Ron, and hopefully, I'll be able to embarrass him forthwith, or fifthwith, or... whatever.

See, in case the other people reading this aren't aware of it, Ron is one of the coolest guys I've ever had the pleasure to know. I've known him since we were little kids taking guitar lessons waaay back in the last century, back before Leo Fender had his heart attack, and if you wanted a Fender in any color other than sunburst, you had to special order it, and wait for maybe a year.

Ron could absolutely smoke me on guitar back then, and dang it, he still can, making it look as easy as proverbial pie. He was the lead guitar in a band we had back when we were protesting the Vietnam war, and he was playing a white Tele through three, count 'em, THREE rolled and pleated naugahyde Kustom 200's with six 15" speakers altogether, which Ron hauled around in a bright red 1960 Chevy station wagon that used to belong to a fire department somewhere, which we affectionately called the Ketchupmobile.

Remember when they called the cops on us for our show at Pardeeville? >chuckledeechuckle, snarkkk<

And then there was the time when I was the guitar player in Yancy Derringer, later THE...VERS, when I had accidentally severed two tendons in my left hand. Ron was the first one the other guys in the band called to fill in for me, and he did a sterling job. I had to heal double quick, or I'd have been out of a job!

Ron is a class act in every way, from the excellent gear he uses to his terrifically pleasant personality. He's a team player, but can take a lead role whenever appropriate. And, he knows his shit! No kiddin!

In all the years I've known him, I don't think I've EVER seen him angry! And don't think I've never given him reason to be! I won't go into that, let's just say that this guy is going to heaven, no matter what religion you subscribe to.

And you can get a little preview of heaven anytime you catch him playing, he's that good!

Here's hoping that I've made your face red enough by now, Ron. You know it's all true, and so do all the other people reading this who know you, even if you won't admit it!

Ketchup wit you laid her...

Zoid

Ron you definitly are an ace when it comes to lead guitar solo work. You have an almost erie sound, something between Hendrix and Satriani, with some kick butt Ted Nugent style stuff thrown in there. I could listen to you play all night long! The good news is when I'm keepin' your rockin' backbeat for you when we do our gigs as the "TROYE SHANKS BAND", I get to do just that!! Keep up the great work, and keep on smiling, youre a great talent!

Hi Ron, I had the pleasure of meeting you last Sat night at the Riviera Bowl with the TSB..(I'm the guitar player with Jostle) Man, I gotta tell ya, your guitar tone just smoked! I hope I can get my Mesa to sound as awesome as yours did! Loved reading your bio, I remember "NEW YORKS IN HEAT" from the 92.1FM Homemade album, maybe the VERS and FALCON can do a reunion tour!!! Much Respect, Dave Martin

I've been to every JLB show except 1. You'd think that it would get old hearing the songs played that many times, but Ron found a way to add a little extra to every show so that I could expierience a little something new each time.....Rock fingers to the air!!!!

Nice to meet you and Troye at the Crasher's show at the Dry Bean last night. Saw Brian Beebe there too. Hoping I can make it to the show at Club Tavern on the 10th. Saw Clear Blue Betty a couple weeks ago at the Bean. They're really good. Good luck.

Ron,

The band is great!! I am not a big country fan, but the band has put a twist on it.
The energy and sound of the band, make it impossible for someone not to enjoy the experence.

I've had the pleasure of jamming with Ron on several occasions. Ron always provides solid rhythm guitar and highly creative and melodic lead solos. If you're in an established band and need someone to fill-in, spur of the moment, Ron's your guy.

Ron, Site looks great. Glad to see you're doing well. I have to say thanks for all the advice you've given me over the years along with the fun times we had back when you played in Denny Dean's band. I truly value our friendship and look forward to many years ahead of good music and good times!! Congrats on hooking up with the JLB. Saw you a few months ago and you were absolutely rockin'. It's easy to say you've only gotten better with age.

Hey Ron, I met you a while back at Fyfe's Corner Bistro when you were playing guitar with Jessi and Troy was there singing in between sets. (the short red head, we talked about Molly and the Heymakers and The band Garbage) Sorry I didn't make it back into Madison the next day, things didn't work out for me.

I did make it to the MAMA's last Sat. night, I was sitting a couple rows behind Beth Kille and her husband and the rest of the band. After the show I saw you talking to some people and didn't want to interupt...WASN'T IT AWESOME JESSI WON...YOU GO JESSI.. and I can't wait to see you all out playin after Jessi gets back. All of you that played on her CD are great as well. You all have something to really be excited about, that album is WAY OUT THERE...

I really love your site and you know I couldn't figure out where I have known of you before and when I read you played with Denny Dean and the Cadillac Cowboyz and The Lincoln County Regulators I was like ya that was it.. I hadn't been out to the music scene since Pott's Inn in Cross Plains was open, now there is no Pott's Inn, that was years ago. It's now gone burned to the ground, the town bought it and made the space where Pott's Inn was a parking lot..(yes there is a song written about something like that..LOL) What a waste of a great music happening place... A lot of great musicians played there and a lot of serious parting with the bands after bar time... Wasn't till I heard Jessi that she got me out and about again... I know once hooked always hooked. Who knows what the future holds.

Here's wishing you a great year all the way around and I will stop by and say hi when I see ya out playin and jammin... I am glad your up and runnin... your site looks great..

Bernie

Yo - Ron!
It was great to meet you at the Scurvy Dogs show, er, I mean the Yard Dogs show yesterday! It's always fun to swap stories with well-travelled Guitar Slingers!

Your web site it pretty great. Especially this part here where I can write just about anything I want (but this is a family show, right?)

So, you too are really in that elite crowd of musicians harassed by the Pardeeville Policia? We used to play gigs in the park, in the local hash house, and even the high school. Police came to every show. They were some of our best fans. I got to know Sheriff Rowe pretty darn good in those days too. Maybe it was the fire-engine red band bus? Hmm. Those were the days.

It was great to meet you and see all those Vers vets yesterday. I look forward to coming out and seeing you and Troye trash some honky-tonk, in a proverbial sense I mean.

Nash Vegas & the the Polkabilly Inferno

p.s. I like your foto gallery - what are those two girls about to do to that poor defenseless beer bottle anyway? When I die, I'm definitely asking to come back as a beer bottle. :)

I have had the privilege of jamming with Ron from time to time. Although he is in another league, he was always patient and helpful. Ron is a class act. Ron has played with a number of famous musicians. And now I can say that I have played with a famous muiscian by the name of Ron Vogel.
